Annette Ridenour
Founder and President, Aesthetics, Inc. Founding Board Member of the National Organization for Arts in Health
Annette’s been a leader in healthcare design and arts in health for over 40 years as president of Aesthetics, Inc. She has been described as a practical visionary for her ability to combine explorative thought with strategic thinking focused upon implementation. She is a natural group leader and as a practitioner of Generative Space, Annette guides healthcare leadership in processes to create physical spaces that support not only their institutional mission and goals but improves the emotional level of satisfaction of patients, visitors and staff in working in and experiencing healthcare.
As the co-founder and board member of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH), she has helped guide the field, including the New Curriculum in Arts in Health for Arts Preferences, this book is the basis of the soon-to-be certification for Art Preferences.
A pioneer of the field of arts and healthcare, she served as one of the original board members and president of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. Currently she’s Treasurer of the National Organization for Arts in Health. She coauthored “Transforming the Healthcare Experience through the Arts” with former Rady Children’s Hospital CEO, Blair Sadler and authored numerous chapters in, most recently “Managing Arts Programs in Healthcare” edited by Patricia Dewey. She is one of the authors and editors of the newly released “Core Curriculum for Arts in Health Professionals.” She has received numerous awards including: Founders Award from HFSE, Lifetime Achievement in Arts in Healthcare, 1st place for Art in the Patient Environment from the Int’l Academy for Design and Health, Generative Space Award for St. Joseph Oakland Hospital and in 2016 won the International Award for Valley Children’s Hospital and in 2019 for her Rejuvenation Station, a pod-a-portal unit bringing science-based audio sound experiences to clinical staff, where they need it and when they need it.
Two examples of Annette’s pioneering work are Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, where she led Aesthetics in the design and facilitation of their award winning multi-year arts program and Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center.
